Highway Department

The Highway Department works out of the Town Garage located at 273 Staso Road.  If you see a problem on a town road, call the garage. If there is no answer, please leave a detailed message.  It is not possible for the Highway Department to inspect all roads every day.

The Castleton Highway Department is staffed with four (4) full time employees and one (1) full-time vehicle mechanic.  The Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of approximately 72 miles of Town highways, bridges, sidewalks and maintenance of town-owned lands and buildings.

In addition to routine operation and maintenance work (plowing snow, dust control, grading, cleaning/replacing culverts, sidewalk maintenance, tree removal, and roadside mowing) the Highway Department develops a work plan for annual road maintenance.  They also assist the sewer, recreation, transfer station and other departments as needed.
